The North Borneo Overland Safari combines the best of Borneo assets - adventure, eco/nature and wildlife - and is specially designed based on constructive feedbacks and preferences of our past clients.

You will be taken overland from Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, Malaysia Borneo all the way along mountainous roads that wind along the Crocker range to the World Heritage Site of Kinabalu National Park and overnight at a mountain lodge.
You will visit another interesting natural wonder, Poring Hot Spring, named after the tall bamboo plant that is abundant in that area, is a natural spring where hot sulfurous water emit from the ground.
You will next be taken overland to Sandakan passing through scenic countryside, rice fields, local villages and plantations and stop-over to explore the fascinating Gomatong Caves, home to millions of bats and swiflet birds before arriving at a river lodge at Sukau by the banks of the Kinabatangan River, the longest river in Sabah.
You will be taking a for boat cruise along the Kinabatangan River which has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Borneo, to search for the odd nose monkeys of Borneo, the Proboscis Monkeys, and other wildlife.
You will be taken overland from Sandakan to Danum "The Lost World" Valley near Lahad Datu, one of the remotest and most exotic places on earth and stay at a rainforest lodge, and
You will be trekking and exploring the unique and rare virgin rainforest and wildlife exclusive to the area, including a golden opportunity to take a "Night Drive Safari" to search for nocturnal animals.

Also take the opportunity to meet the local people and get an insight into their colorful traditions and customs, and experience the exuberant nature of Borneo – a truly unique and unforgettable adventure.

The North Borneo Overland Safari is a tour for everyone, but it is no Sunday morning stroll. Nature, long overland journey, and the relentless tropical weather will require endurance, resilience and patience from every single traveler. It is tailored-made for the more adventurous and nature/wildlife loving traveler but stop short of being a hardcore adventure tour with more than comfortable accommodation.

Day 1: ARRIVAL/KOTA KINABALU

- Arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

- Meet on arrival and transfer to hotel.

- Overnight at a City hotel (4-star).

Day 2: KOTA KINABALU/KINABALU NATIONAL PARK

- Depart from your hotel at around 08:30 for a 2-hour drive into the Crocker Range.

- Enjoy superb mountain views as you travel to the Kinabalu Park at about 1,500m above sea level.

- Check into your accommodation and after lunch, we shall explore one of the many trails that lead through the tropical Montane Oak and Chestnut Forest.

- Overnight at mountain lodge or similar.

Day 3: KINABALU NATIONAL PARK/PORING HOT SPRING

- Drive to Poring Hot Springs from Kinabalu National Park.

- Lowland Dipterocarp Forest makes most of the vegetation at Poring and it is an excellent place to view lowland birds and some mammals.

- There are Japanese Baths where visitors can soak themselves and let the invigorating sulfurous water stimulate the body.

- A shorter trek to the canopy walkway for a bird's eye view of the Tropical Rainforest.

- Overnight at mountain lodge or similar.

Day 4: KNP/GOMANTONG CAVE/KINABATANGAN RIVER/SUKAU

- Depart for a 4-hour drive to Sandakan Kinabatangan River passing through scenic countryside, rice fields, local villages and plantations.

- Enroute visit Gomantong Caves famous for the Chinese delicacy, the bird nest.

- Trek 20 minutes through the rainforest to the cave entrance.

- Upon arrival, check-in to the Sukau Kinabatangan River Lodge.

- The lower reaches of Kinabatangan River has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Borneo.

- The most famous creature of all, guaranteed to be sighted, is undoubtedly the bizarre Proboscis Monkeys.

- Late afternoon, proceed for a unique river cruise to search for the Proboscis Monkeys and other wildlife.

- Overnight at Proboscis Sukau Lodge.

Day 5: KINABATANGAN RIVER/SUKAU/KELENANAP OX-BOW

- Wake up to the sound of Borneo: the calls of gibbons and hornbills.

- A 6.00 am morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to view more birds and wildlifes.

- Proceed to the Kelenanap ox-bow lake for a short jungle walk (if weather permits).

- The many dramatic and beautiful birds of the Kinabatangan region that may be sighted include the elegant Egrets, several species of Kingfishers, the Oriental Darter which dives underwater to catch its prey, the swift and vividly coloured Bee-eaters and Hornbills.

- In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlifes.

- Overnight at Proboscis Sukau Lodge.

Day 6: SUKAU/SEPILOK/LAHAD DATU/DANUM/BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE

- After breakfast, transfer by boat and land to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre.

- Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plankwalks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 10.00am.

- Proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu for lunch.

- Drive 83km through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest.

- The Lodge is home to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans.

- So far some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area.

- Explore nature trail and nearby river.

- In the evening a slide show and if weather permits one can go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals.

- Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 7: BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE

- Early morning birdwalk before breakfast.

- Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins.

- Trek to waterfall and dip in refreshing rock pools.

- Lunch at the lodge.

- In the afternoon, jungle walk through trails leading to canopy walkway.

- Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 8: DANUM/LAHAD DATU/KOTA KINABALU

- Morning Trek in search of mammals and birds.

- Return to the Centre for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu.

- Take the last flight MH2097 1735/1830 to Kota Kinabalu.

- Meet on arrival at KKIA and transfer to hotel.

- Overnight at a City hotel (4-star).

Day 9: KOTA KINABALU/DEPARTURE

- Free at own leisure until pick-up time to the airport.

- Meet at hotel lobby and transfer to KKIA.

- Departure from Kota Kinabalu to next destination.
